A new Moon at Maritzburg

The younger brother of former Bafana Bafana fullback Bryce Moon has signed professional terms at Maritzburg United, keeping up a family tradition at the club that now spans two generations.
The 17-year-old Ryan Moon now comes into contention for a first team place even though he is still a Grade 11 pupil at the prestigious Maritzburg College.
His elder brother, who played for both Bafana Bafana and for Greek club Panathinaikos in the Uefa Champions League, recently moved from Bidvest Wits to Mamelodi Sundowns. Their father Patrick played for the club when they were in the old Federation League.
“I am really excited to have signed and now be a part of Maritzburg United Football Club. It is a great feeling to have signed for the club that my dad and brother have played for.
" I know that I will have to work really hard to become successful and I am looking forward to working with the Head Coach, Ernst Middendorp and the Technical Team," he told the club’s website.
Chairman Farook Kadodia, who signed Ryan's father in 1979, added: “Ryan has immense potential and he will surprise a lot of people. There was a lot of excitement about Bryce, but they will be even more excitement about Ryan.“
Ernst Middendorp added:??“We are now injecting some youth into the squad. We may even sign one or two more by the end of the year. Ryan is still young but from what we have seen so far, he is looking really good.
