Duncan passes on Great Olympics

Former Free State Stars coach David Duncan has backed out of a proposed contract with Great Olympics.
His decision to opt out of an arranged two-year contract with the Ghana Premier League side comes as a major setback for the side who are returning to top-flight football. Olympics were relegated in 2010.
Duncan had been taking the side through some pre-season training while fine-tuning terms with officials of Great Olympics, who he previously played for and coached.
But internal wrangling between the club’s board chairman Eric Nii Afotey Odai and new partners Global Media Village Group (the parent body of Optimum Media Prime) over business arrangement and control of the club informed the 55-year-old to discontinue the relationship.
The two partners, before coach Duncan’s firm decision to “stay out of harm’s way” as he best describes, had arranged to meet over the final details of his contract as well as plans for the coming season on Tuesday.
The start of the 2014/15 Ghana Premier League is less than a fortnight away with the ‘Wonder Club’ faced with a difficult season opener away to AshGold at the Len Clay Stadium on January 18.
