Brutal Express punish KCC

KCC's chances of defending the league title could be all but over after Tuesday’s comprehensive 3-0 defeat at the hands of fierce rivals Express at Lugogo.
John Ssemazi, Isaac Sserunkuma and Julius Ogwang struck the second half goals to make it two straight home Uganda Premier League (UPL) defeats following a 2-0 loss to Vipers last Friday.
The result leaves coach Abdallah Mubiru’s KCC, who have four games left, on 50 points; six and four behind the top two clubs Vipers and SC Villa respectively while victory for Express leaves them eighth on 34 points.
KCC have, however, played one game more than leaders Vipers and two more than second-placed Villa.
Just like in the defeat to Vipers last week, KCC never got out of their blocks, Express dominating all departments all evening.
Both teams had good efforts in the first half; Herman Wasswa’s shot just inside the 18-yard area forcing a great save from the visitors’ goalkeeper and off the upright - out.
Ssemazi’s header the other end also forced a brilliant save from Benjamin Ochan before the ball came off the upright – and out.
But it is Express who played with more ambition and purpose, the Red Eagles breaking the deadlock in the second half when Ssemazi put them ahead from close range.
Coach Wasswa Bbosa’s men doubled the advantage with a masterclass of a counter attack that ended with Geoffrey Lwesibawa’s brilliant cross being turned in by Sserunkuma.
Second-half substitute Ogwang added the icing on the cake with a thunderbolt of a strike, beating Ochan from outside the 18-yard area after Ssemazi had set him up.
In Tuesday’s other games, striker Robert Ssentongo’s 12th and 13th goal of the campaign helped fourth-placed URA to a 2-1 win over Kira Young.
Defeat for Kira, who were coming off a 2-1 victory over Express, leaves them 14th with 24 points victory for URA moves them to 42 points in fourth.
At Bugembe in Jinja, a brace from Norman Ojik and two goals from Fred Segujja and Joseph Ssemwogerere saw Sadolin Paints move into the ninth place with 32 points following a 4-1 thumping of Soana.
Elsewhere, Joshua Masene’s strike condemned Rwenshama to a 1-0 defeat to Bul as the former’s chances of surviving relegation dwindle further.
