Lyon's defensive midfielder Maxime Gonalons was called up Monday by France coach Didier Deschamps for a World Cup qualifying double-header as a replacement for the injured Etienne Capoue.
France play Georgia in Tbilisi on Friday before travelling to Belarus next Tuesday.
Tottenham Hotspur's Capoue injured his leg during Sunday's north London derby against Arsenal in the English Premier League.
"I've called up Maxime due to Etienne Capoue's injury and the uncertainty surrounding Clement Grenier," said Deschamps from France's training centre in Clairefontaine, just outside the capital Paris.
Gonalons has played six times for France but was not picked for the 0-0 friendly draw with Belgium in August.
His club teammate Grenier, who is still part of the squad, missed Lyon's 2-1 defeat at Evian on Saturday due to a thigh problem.
France trail world and European champions Spain by a point in Group I with three games left. Only the winners will earn their ticket to next year's World Cup in Brazil while the second-placed finishers will enter the play-offs.
