Nigeria's Afcon apathy normal

Super Eagles and Warri Wolves forward Joseph Osadiaye has described as natural Nigerians apparent lukewarm attitude towards the ongoing Africa Cup of Nation in Equatorial Guinea.
The 2013 Afcon champions were conspicuously absent when football hostilities commenced on Saturday at the biennial football showpiece.
Osadiaye said the painful memory of Nigeria’s non-qualification is still fresh and certain to affect the attention and psyche of Nigerians as the championship progresses.
“It’s very bad that Nigeria, the defending champions, are not in Equatorial Guinea to defend the title they won in South Africa.
“The reality of the painful miss just dawned on us as the championship kicked off on Saturday without any mention of Nigeria.
“So it’s natural and normal that the majority of Nigerians are not paying adequate attention to the ongoing games. I still believe the interest will continue to drop as the championship progresses.
“Nigeria have the quality players to dominate Africa but got things wrong during the qualifiers especially the last group game against South Africa in Uyo.
“Many Nigerians would rather watch something else than the ongoing Afcon as it’s bound to remind them of the ugly absence of Nigeria,” said the Warri Wolves marksman to supersport.com.
Osadiaye however tipped the Elephants of Cote D'Ivoire to win the ongoing championship in Equatorial Guinea.
“Ivory Coast will win the 2015 Afcon in Equatorial Guinea, they’re a strong side and have quality players to win the coveted trophy,” said Osadiaye.
The West African giants are pitched in Group D together with Guinea, Mali and Cameroon.
