McKinstry edges closer to Amavubi job

Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) are on the brink of naming former Sierra Leone tactician Johnny McKinstry as the head coach of the senior men’s national football team.
According to trusted sources, Ferwafa have agreed verbally with the Irishman although both parties are yet to sign the contract.
Ferwafa secretary general Olivier Mulindahabi is optimistic an announcement could be made soon. "We are concluding talks with the new coach and as soon as we agree on the terms, we shall sign a deal with him and make an announcement," he said, adding,. "This can even be made today.”
McKinstry’s first assignment will be to prepare the Amavubi Stars for the international friendly game against Zambia on March 29 in Lusaka.
The 29-year-old will then prepare the U-23 side for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games qualifier against Somalia next month before launching a campaign in preparation for the 2016 African Nations Championship (Chan) that will be hosted in Rwanda from January 16-February 7.
The new coach will also be charged with preparing a team to play in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers that commence in October.
