Ke Yona star shines in the PSL

The dream of playing football at the highest level continues to live on for the 2014 Nedbank Ke Yona Team captain, Sydney Masana. The Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search has been on an extensive search for South Africa’s next football heroes for the past three years and has unearthed some exciting talent that now features in some of the Premier Soccer League and National First Division sides.
One of the stars that were discovered by Nedbank is 24-year-old Sydney Masana who is now a key member of Kinnah Phiri’s squad after being signed by Free State stars on a two year contract. Masana was part of the 30 000 young South African men from all parts of South Africa that took a step of making their dreams happen by entering the Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search.
The bulky forward from Nyanga Township in Cape Town now commands a regular starting position in the highly competitive Free State Stars squad. Masana gave a sterling performance when he made his first appearance at a professional cup competition during the Nedbank Cup round of 32 against Bidvest Wits.. Even though Masana’s team bowed out of Africa’s most lucrative cup competition, the former Ke Yona captain continues to be in fine form for his club. The former Ke Yona captain continues to work hard and has been one of Free State Stars’ most instrumental players.
“It still feels like a dream that I am playing football at the highest level with one of the biggest clubs in the country. I believe I have been doing quite well for my team this year but I still believe that I should continue working hard. To this day, I thank the Nedbank Ke Yona team search for the opportunity that it presented to me as a young aspiring footballer,” says Masana.
Nedbank’s Senior Communication Manager, Nkosinathi Msiza believes that the Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search is one of many ways in which Nedbank continues to be an enabler in the communities that it serves.
“This is exactly what the Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search is about, identifying raw talent and giving hope where hope seemed to have been lost. There are many players like Sydney who have not been given a chance to showcase their talent and it is through initiatives such as these that Nedbank can make things that really matter happen for people,” said Msiza.
Just like Masana, aspiring footballers between the ages of 18 and 25 in possession of a valid South African ID can also make their dreams happen by simply dialling *120*KEYONA# or *120*539662# and following the easy steps to enter. To date, the Nedbank Ke Yona Team search has had 16 425 entries. This is a clear indication that young footballers are ready to make their dreams happen.
Entries close on 31 March.
