Red Arrows continued where they left off against Nkana last season with a 1-0 away win on Sunday in Kitwe in a 2015 Faz Super League Week One match.
Last season, Arrows beat Nkana 2-0 away at the same venue to avenge their 3-0 home defeat suffered earlier that season at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
Nkana started promisingly but were literally silenced in the 28th minute by a very familiar face.
Striker Francis Kombe hammered in the game’s lone goal from close-range to hurt the club he left last July.
Coincidentally, Kombe also scored in the last meeting against the twelve-time champions in November in Kitwe.
Meanwhile, there was also no joy for promoted nine-time champions Mufulira Wanderers in the lunchtime kick-off at the same venue in their first Faz Super League match back since 2005.
Wanderers also lost 1-0 in their home game against Konkola Blades and it took just six minutes into the first half for the visitors’ to get the winner through Dave Kalandanya.
However, the early lead in Week One belongs to Napsa Stars who beat National Assembly 3-1 on Saturday in their Lusaka derby at Woodlands Stadium.
Striker Davies Mwape put Napsa ahead in the 3rd minute before Ivorian midfielder Jean Paul Semaho turned from provider to scorer in the 17th minute.
Keegan Zulu made it 3-0 in the 29th minute while Isaac Ngoma scored Assembly’s consolation goal four minutes later.
Across town at Sunset Stadium, promoted Lusaka Dynamos lost 1-0 at home to Green Eagles via an 87th minute goal by Chansa Katongo.
In Mazabuka, Nakambala Leopards were held to a scoreless draw by promoted Nkwazi.
At Nchanga Stadium in Chingola, financially troubled Nchanga Rangers defied the odds in Week One to start the season in second place.
Fighton Simukonda’s side beat promoted Forest Rangers 2-0 courtesy of goals by Fashion Phiri and Spencer Ngalande in the 6th and 38th minutes respectively.
