Vipers go for UPL summit

Vipers will assume the top of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) table if they beat Soana on Tuesday.
The two face off in Buikwe in one of four matches lined up on the day. The other three games have Rwenshama hosting Bright Stars at Nakivubo, Bul entertaining Entebbe in Jinja and SCVU travelling to face Police in Kavumba.
Coach Edward Golola’s Vipers – the 2010 champions – will also be seeking to keep their unbeaten run intact after 17 games.
Vipers could go top with one point above SC Villa, who lead the 16-team log on 39 points.
They come into this tie on the back of yet another 1-0 victory (over Sadolin), a scoreline that has come to be identified with the Buikwe-based side this season.
The other game that will be closely monitored is in Kavumba, where SCVU coach Morley Byekwaso’s job is on the line in the encounter with hosts Angelo Lonyesi’s Police.
The university side have failed to win any game in the second round and the club new owner, Mohammad Nserekero, is increasingly getting frustrated by the results.
There have already been changes at nine of the 16 topflight league clubs and Nsereko on Monday confirmed Byekwaso could become the latest victim.
“The results have been disappointing and it is time we take action,” said the legislator, who acquired majority shares in the club at the end of January.
The largely conservative Byekwaso has been faulted for his defensive approach to games in which he usually employs six defensive-minded players regularly.
