WCQ race not over for Eagles

Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Fatai Amoo has said it is not done and dusted for the side as far as the ticket for the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil is concerned.
The Super Eagles came from behind to record a stunning 2-1 win over their hosts, the Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia in the first fixture of the 2014 Fifa World Cup play-offs at the Addis Ababa National Stadium on Sunday.
Ethiopia winger, Behailu Assefa put his side in the lead in the 57th minute while striker, Emmanuel Emenike scored a brace in the 67th and 90th minute to hand the reigning African champions an advantage to qualifying for the global quadrennial football fiesta in Brazil.
Amoo, who admitted that the Ethiopians created anxious moments for Nigerians, warned the Eagles not to go to sleep as the East Africans are capable of causing upset in the reverse fixture on November 16.
“It’s a sweet victory for Nigerians as the Super Eagles now have their foot 75% in Brazil but not yet a done deal.
“Ethiopians showed character and clearly dominated ball possession and actually created some anxious moments for the Eagles by even going ahead to score goal.
“The Eagles can’t afford to sleep as there is still 90 minutes to play for here in Nigeria, so the race for Brazil 2014 ticket is not over.
“The away victory in Addis Ababa is good for the Eagles as they could decide to leave the score line that way in Nigeria, go for a draw or an outright win.
“But there shouldn’t be complacency as there appeared areas the technical crew need to work on before the second leg comes knocking on our doors.
“Vincent Enyeama’s mistake caused us the Ethiopia’s goal, we don’t need to crucify him, he’s human only that the goalkeeper trainer must work on him to avoid a repeat.
“A draw in Addis Ababa would still have been considered a good result but right now we’ve 2-1 advantage, so whether Ethiopia dominated ball possession or not what counts is the result. It’s the end that justifies the means,” said the former Nigerian star and Sunshine Stars coach to supersport.com.
The Eagles will take their hard earned 2-1 win to the reverse fixture on Saturday, November 16 against the East Africans at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar. The aggregate winners will qualify for the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
