Germany winger Marco Reus is an injury doubt for Borussia Dortmund's Champions League clash at Arsenal on Wednesday after being carried off in Saturday's 2-2 Bundesliga draw at Paderborn.
The 25-year-old twisted his right ankle after being fouled by Paderborn's Marvin Bakalorz, who was later booked, and was stretchered off after 66 minutes having given his side a 2-0 lead at Paderborn.
Torn ligaments in his left ankle ruled Reus out of Germany's victorious World Cup campaign and he missed seven games after injuring the same ankle in the world champions' 2-1 win over Scotland in a Euro 2016 qualifier in September.
A diagnosis is due on Sunday, but Dortmund's director of sport Michael Zorc said they suspect an ankle ligament has been torn.
"The fact that it looks like Marco will be out again is harder to process than the draw," said Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp.
"Everyone was looking at me like a disaster has happened."
Bakalorz, who joined Paderborn from Dortmund in 2013, apologised for injuring his former Borussia teammate.
"We shared a room once in a training camp and I would never want to kick Marco," said the 25-year-old.
"I wanted to get the ball, but I went in too hard. In any case, I am sorry."
Dortmund are top of Group D, five points clear of second-placed Arsenal, and have already booked their place in the Champions League's last 16 with two games to spare before the Emirates Stadium clash after four straight wins in Europe.
But they are struggling in the league following the worst start to a Bundesliga season in the club's history nmd the single point from Paderborn leaves them 14th after losing seven of their first 12 games.
Having dominated with first-half goals by Reus and Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Dortmund slumped again as Paderborn's Lukas Rupp pulled a goal back before Mahir Saglik's 81st-minute equaliser.
"We're sitting here again and we have - almost - nothing to show for it," fumed Klopp.
"The point makes things difficult in regards to the situation in the table."
Dortmund can finish the weekend back in the Bundesliga's relegation places after Sunday's matches when bottom side VfB Stuttgart host Augsburg and Werder Bremen are at Hamburg in the north German derby with both teams in the last three.
