Stevens off to flying start as Stuttgart win

Coach Huub Stevens began his new reign at VfB Stuttgart with a 4-1 win at Freiburg on Friday to see his side move off the bottom of the Bundesliga.
Two goals from Martin Harnik and one apiece from Carlos Gruezo and Timo Werner gave Stuttgart only their third win in 13 league games, moving them to 12 points, level with Freiburg and SV Hamburg.
Stuttgart go above Borussia Dortmund, on 11 points ahead of Dortmund's visit on Sunday to Eintracht Frankfurt, and Werder Bremen, who are now last on 10 before a home game against Paderborn on Saturday.
Dutchman Stevens, who took over on Tuesday following the resignation of Armin Veh, made four changes to the team that lost 1-0 at Augsburg last weekend against a Freiburg side that had won two and drawn one of their last three league matches.
Stevens is in his second spell at Stuttgart after avoiding relegation when in charge on a short-term contract for the last 10 games of last season.
Stuttgart got off to the best of starts when Harnik headed home in the 31st minute after Moritz Leitner's cross was headed on by Antonio Ruediger.
Freiburg levelled three minutes before halftime when Vladimir Darida found the net with a 25-metre drive.
The visitors regained the lead seven minutes after the break when Carlos Gruezo followed up after Roman Buerki saved from Christian Gentner.
Timo Werner made it three when through on goal in the 68th minute, and Harnik grabbed his second in the 76th from a pass from Gotoku Sakai.
By then Freiburg were down to 10 men when defender Stefan Mitroviv was sent off in the 70th minute for bringing down Harnik on the edge of the area.
Elsewhere at the weekend, leaders Bayern Munich visit lowly Hertha Berlin, while Sunday's games sees second-placed Wolfsburg host third-placed Borussia Moenchengladbach.
