Free State Stars general manager Rantsi Mokoena says his team is planning a clean sweep during the second round of the Premiership title race which gets under way in a fortnight's time.
"We let ourselves down in the first round and also lost some games we should have easily won," he said in Bloemfontein on Wednesday.
"The break has been tremendous as we managed to sort out all the problems which affected us – in all the departments."
Surrounded by the gloom of failing to win convincingly before letting go of Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet, Mokoena said they needed to change their mindset to move away from the relegation zone.
Having been boosted by a five-week break to accommodate the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, interim coach Kinnah Phiri was able to work on the tactical aspects of the game and Mokoena was confident his boys would be a team to watch when the league resumed.
"We are ready now and this team deserves to finish inside the top eight, judging by the response of the players so far."
Mokoena's optimism stemmed from the fact that Stars had spent two weeks in Lesotho playing a series of friendly matches against local teams.
"It was a good trip and we really had good outings in Lesotho. The results were not important as we wanted to rectify our mistakes and improve as a team.
"I am glad we managed to achieve that."
Moeketsi Sekola, the league's joint leading goalscorer with eight goals, and Richard Henyekane were a marvel to watch, Mokoena said.
Having conceded 26 goals though, Stars needed to work on their defence.
"We need to be tight at the back and then all will be well. We want to create a great team and that means we must hold on to our best players," Mokoena said.
"We expecting great things from the entire team and by the time the league resumes, we will be firing at all cylinders. We must make sure we don't lose our home matches and accumulate decent points to ensure we escape the drop.
Free State Stars were lying in 14th position on the log with 18 points and reopen their league campaign against SuperSport United away on February 11.
