Kwambe keen to see Eagles on track

Sunshine Stars defender, Solomon Kwambe, has told supersport.com that he is not just concerning himself with making the start list against Congo this weekend but wants to help the African champions win in Pointe-Noire.

Nigeria's Super Eagles go head to head against the Red Devils of Congo in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match at the Stade Municipal in Congo's second largest city, Pointe-Noire and Kwambe believes the African champions can get back on track.

The right-back, who is one of the players handed a recall to the Super Eagles by head coach, Stephen Keshi, wants to carry his form from the international friendly against Ghana at the Akwa Ibom Stadium into the clash with the Red Devils.

"I am very happy to be back in the national team after a while. Right now I'm not bothered about making the first team but I'm focused on helping the team win (in Congo) if I'm selected to play by the coach. This is another chance for me to prove I'm still relevant and good enough for the national team. I believe I can play even better than I did against Ghana in the friendly we won 1-0.

"I know how important this match is to us and the coach has said the same thing. We cannot afford to lose or draw. It is going to be a tough game but by God's grace we will win and that's important," said the former Plateau United man to supersport.com.

But Nigeria need to win by a two-goal margin, and Kwambe is confident that the Super Eagles can achieve that in Pointe-Noire.

"Yes we can win 2-0 there, and that is why we have been working hard with our coaches to achieve that. It won't be easy but it is possible after all Congo came to Nigeria and won when they were not given the chance to do so," said Kwambe.

Kwambe last featured for Nigeria in an A-game in the 2-2 draw with Italy in an international friendly apart from appearing in the friendly against Ghana last Friday.
