Defender John Boye has allayed fears of a long injury layoff after pulling out in the first half of his club’s league game in Turkey.
Last Monday, Boye was hurriedly substituted just after the half hour mark while in action for Kayseri Erciyesspor in their 1-1 draw away to Sivasspor. He had suffered a contraction in his thigh.
The 27-year-old says he is not in danger but has been advised by the club doctors to rest for seven days following results from an MRI scan on Tuesday.
“It is not that serious. The scans revealed I have to be out for one week and rest the muscles. I don’t think it is anything to worry about. After the rest, I will return to training and can play again,” Boye told Kumasi-based station Angel FM.
Ghana has been drawn to fight for survival in Group C of the 2015 Afcon against Senegal, Algeria and South Africa. And the centre-back, who moved to Turkey from French side Stade Rennes during the summer, says he is gearing himself up for the attackers he will be facing when called to duty in Mongomo.
“We play with and against them at our various clubs so they are not new to us. I’m preparing myself feverishly to put up my best when called upon at the Afcon and I believe the same applies to my colleagues,” he said.
Boye is not new to the big stage at the Afcon. He looks set for his third successive appearance at the tournament and was a member of the Black Stars’ 2014 World Cup squad.
