These are extremely positive times for Nigeria international striker Brown Ideye.
The attacker, who has been labelled a misfit in some sections of the media following his record £10 million move to West Bromwich Albion from Dynamo Kiev, appears to be slowly finding his feet at the Midlands.
Ideye, who has yet to score a goal in the Barclays English Premier League this season, hit form on Tuesday with a barnstorming display capped by two goals in a 5-2 win over Northampton in a behind-closed-doors friendly.
Ideye’s heroics in front of goal has not gone unnoticed by the WBA manager, Alan Irvine, who was quick to offer words of encouragement to his Nigerian charge.
“He’s actually trained the best he has trained in the last couple of weeks,” Irvine told authoritative British Newspaper, Express and Star.
Ideye has made just five league appearances for the Baggies this term with three of those coming from the substitute’s bench.
Irvine revealed that Ideye has failed to nail down a spot in the first team because he has not been at his best in training in the past.
“That’s not in terms of his application, which has always been good, but in terms of his effectiveness.
“So he’s certainly looking more like what we would hope he would look. He has scored goals in training.
“There was a time when he was struggling to do that (train at his best). And I think he is feeling a lot better about himself," the WBA manager said.
Irvine hinted Brown was a contender to start at the KC Stadium last Saturday before Victor Anichebe was passed fit.
Saido Berahino was left out for the first time this season and Irvine considered both the leading scorer and Ideye in case Anichebe failed to shake off his groin problem.
