Gourcuff: Senegal are very dangerous

Algeria coach Christian Gourcuff says Senegal will be ‘very dangerous’ opponents and has spoken of his admiration for counterpart Alain Giresse ahead of the teams’ final Africa Cup of Nations Group C match in Malabo this evening.
The Fennec Foxes and Teranga Lions will battle for a place in the quarterfinals of the competition, though it is possible that both could qualify together, depending on the result in the other Group C match between South Africa and Ghana in Mongomo.
“I had the opportunity to watch Senegal before the competition. They have a young generation of players who are with big European clubs and have impressive physical qualities in all the lines. We knew that this team was very dangerous after the draw took place and it has just been confirmed,” Gourcuff stated at his pre-match press conference.
“I had the opportunity to congratulate [Senegal coach Alain] Giresse after their win over Ghana. The coaches are not at war with each other and on top of that he is a fellow countryman and I have a lot of admiration for the player he was. There is no problem at all and after everyone does his job and tries to prepare his team for a win.”
Gourcuff has also confirmed the absence of striker Islam Slimani for the match against Senegal, with Yshak Belfodil and/or Hillel Soudani set to be his replacement.
Kick-off for the match between Algeria and Senegal in Malabo is at 8pm CAT, live on SS4 HD
