Aces, Maritzburg square off in Cup

Mpumalanga Black Aces and Maritzburg United will meet in the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup for a second successive year when they clash at the Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Kick-off is at 7:30 pm.
The Team of Choice claimed a 2-1 win over their opponents in last years cup fixture with Terrence Mandaza netting the winner in extra-time.
Both teams head into the encounter in similar form with either side yet to find their rhythm since the resumption of the league season.
AmaZayoni are currently on a five game winless streak having suffered three defeats since their win over AmaZulu in December last year.
Maritzburg meanwhile haven't won in six outings with the KwaZulu-Natal side last victory coming against Orlando Pirates at the start of December.
Something though has got to give when the two teams square off in Nelspruit and Aces defender Roger Da Costa is expecting a tough game.
"I just think coming off a couple of losses, the cup is different than the league. The cup presents you with a fresh start, there is no form, no momentum and anyone can win on their day," said Da Costa.
"We have quality in depth, I think Dino Ndlovu has now been cleared to play and he will give us a different dimension.
"Having said that, Steve Komphela's sides are always difficult to beat. His sides are always well disciplined and very well organised.
Maritzburg midfielder Nhlanhla Vilakazi is confident Maritzburg can ignite their season with a run in the cup.
“We have to keep that fighting spirit going in the match against Aces, a win in the cup would be a real boost for the team and can help us to get back to winning ways in the league as well,” Vilakazi said.
“Its going to be tough, away from home against Aces who are a good team. They play well as a team and have a lot of very good players.
“The Maritzburg players are hungry – we feel we are due a win, and we want to go out and do well in the cup to make the club proud and to make Pietermaritzburg proud."
That 2014 Nedbank Cup match is the only knockout encounter between Aces and Maritzburg, with the remainder of their eight games having been played in the league.
Overall, United have claimed five wins compared to two for AmaZayoni. There has been one draw and it was the most recent match between the two teams, a goalless stalemate at Harry Gwala Stadium on 13 September 2014.
