Ghana's Division One League kicks off this weekend under a new sponsorship.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially signed a GHS2.1 million ($605,000) sponsorship deal for three years with GN Bank, a local financial institution.
The new headline sponsor for the second-tier league, which has been without a major sponsor after Poly Tank's deal ended.
At a short event on Wednesday, Ghana FA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, expressed optimism that the new deal will see a better management of the much-maligned lower leagues.
GN is a fully-owned Ghanaian bank, which becomes the second financial institution to take charge of a league in the country, after First Capital Plus Bank put its brand behind the Ghana Premier League.
This year’s Division one League will have three Zones made up of 16 clubs each with the three winners of each zone qualifying automatically into the Ghana Premier League.
