Enyimba striker Onyekachi Samuel Peter is over the moon after scoring his first ever Caf Champions League goal.
The former Abia Warriors marksman scored a goal in the 3-0 demolition of the Beninese side Buffles du Borgou in Africa’s elite club competition first round clash at the Aba Township Stadium.
The Nigerian international had predicted a 3-0 win for his side and a goal for himself prior to the clash on Sunday.
Peter said he could have scored more goals if he had spent more time with his teammates before the clash against the Beninese side.
“I can’t explain how I feel at the moment, rather I can only say I’m excited and happy scoring my first Caf Champions League goal and my first goal for Enyimba. I'm also happy over the first victory for the People’s Elephant.
“I said I’ll score before the match and that we’ll win with three unreplied goals, I’m excited that all the predictions were achieved.
“Though I wasn’t under pressure to score I struggled a bit due to the short time I spent with my colleagues before the game.
“I’m sure I would’ve scored more than a goal if I had been with the team for a long time, I think it doesn’t matter anymore as we won convincingly,” said Peter to supersport.com.
Peter said the Beninese champions could as well start preparing for next year’s edition of the competition as they have practically seen the end of their participation in this year’s edition.
“It’s 100% over for Buffles du Borgou as far as this year’s Champions League competition is concerned.
“We didn’t know much about them before the clash on Sunday, which made it difficult for us to handle them comfortably.
“That has changed as we now understand them as well as how to approach them in the second leg so I expect a better performance in the reverse fixture.
“I’m sure we’ll record a convincing win there in backyard in the reverse fixture,” said the Nigerian Olympic team (Dream Team VI) hitman.
The two-time African champions will take the 3-0 win in a fortnight to Buffles du Borgou in the second leg slated for the 8 000-seat Stade Municipal de Parakou in Benin.
