APR, Liga Desportiva De Maputo in stalemate

Rwandan league champions APR held Liga Desportiva De Maputo to a goalless draw in the first leg of the preliminary round encounter in the CAF Champions League in Maputo on Sunday evening.
A vibrant opening 20 minutes saw the military side dominate play with chances for the striking pair of Michel Ndahinduka and Issa Bigirimana to score but their attempts did not count.
APR then went into defensive mode against the attack-minded hosts who created several chances thereafter in front of expectant home fans.
Interim coach Vincent Mashami said, "We played extremely well in the first 20 minutes but after that we lost possession several times. This forced us to play a very defensive game."
APR dominated the second half and with the introduction of talisman Andrew Buteera, the army side displayed a fluidity in midfield but this did not amount to much in front of goal.
Mashami is optimistic that APR will correct these mistakes in the return leg which will be played in Kigali a fortnight from now.
"We noted their weaknesses and we plan to expose them in the return leg. We did not win today but we shall work hard and make sure we win the match in Rwanda," explained the optimistic Mashami.
This is Mashami and Dusan Duje Suljagic's first assignment since head coach Ljubomir Petrovic resigned last week.
