Asante Kotoko have secured a postponement as Premier League clubs enter the third round of the maiden Elite Cup on Wednesday.
The struggling Porcupine Warriors were to play as guests to lower tier side Wassaman SC on Wednesday. But the club have lost as many as five key players to two national teams who are camping in Prampram and have in writing, been permitted to have their Elite Cup game rescheduled.
“We have five key players currently away at two national team camps which makes us unable to be competitive so we wrote to the Ghana FA under article 13 (4) of the regulations to seek postponement of the midweek game and have been granted,” Asante Kotoko’s communication manager, Kwaku Ahenkorah, tells supersport.com.
Article 13 (4) of the Ghana FA Regulations states that, “Where a club has contributed three (3) players or more to the National Team “A” or 5 or more players in any combination of the National Team ‘A’, U-23, U-20 or U-17 the club may request for postponement of its match and the postponed match shall be rescheduled by the GFA.”
Asante Kotoko have full-backs Christopher Bonney and Emmanuel Asante with the Ghana Under-20 team while trio, Eric Ofori-Antwi, Frank Sarfo-Gyamfi and Dauda Mohammed are also with the Olympic team, the Black Meteors.
On Wednesday afternoon, 14 other Premier League clubs will partake in the first leg matches of the third round of the novelty competition while Amidaus Professionals host Great Olympics at the Tema Stadium on Thursday.
