Equatorial Guinea midfielder Javier Balboa says his second goal against Tunisia in the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations was the best he has scored in his career.
The dreadlocked Balboa, who formerly played for Real Madrid, netted both goals in Nzalang Nacional’s controversial 2-1 victory on Saturday night.
His first was a hotly-debated penalty in injury time at the end of the regulation 90 minutes which the EG no.11 coolly converted to send the game to extra time.
He then put the home side ahead in the first half of extra time with a brilliantly executed free kick that rifled into the top corner of the goal and left Tunisia ‘keeper Aymen Mathlouthi flapping at thin air.
"The free-kick was without doubt the goal of my life, for what it represents for the country and because it has taken us into the semifinals," explained Balboa.
The Estoril midfielder will be a key figure for Equatorial Guinea when they tackle Ghana in a semifinal in Malabo on Thursday night.
