Ekstein hails Chiefs training camp

Kaizer Chiefs players have been speaking of the benefit of their camp in Stellenbosch, not least midfielder Hendrick Ekstein who is hoping it will be a springboard to more first team opportunities in the second half of the season.
Chiefs spent a week in camp, a chance for the players to bond and for coach Stuart Baxter to fine-tune preparations for the restart of the league.
Ekstein netted against National First Division side Milano United and was delighted with his showing.
“I am happy I scored the solitary winner in our practice match,” Ekstein told the club’s website.. “It was my first time in Cape Town and scoring the goal against Milano FC in the practice match will boost my confidence.
“The camp was what ‘the doctor ordered in my case because I was able to interact with our senior players; they gave me some survival tips as a professional player for a top team.”
Defender Tefu Mashamaite was also pleased with the week.
“It gave us an opportunity to bond as a Team,” the centre-back said. “We had an opportunity to refresh the aims and objectives we set out for the season.
“The camp also gave us a chance to gather our thoughts after a protracted mid-season break. We will see on the pitch of play how we respond to the break. We are ready, and we have to be ready.”
Morgan Gould adds that the players were worked hard as they prepare to meet Bloemfontein Celtic next Wednesday.
“The camp was hard work as usual. We learned a lot. And watching the German Bundesliga as a team we saw the danger of the mid-season break (referring to Bayern Munich’s 4-1 loss to Wolfsburg).
“We do not want to fall in the same trap,” added Gould.
