Flying Eagles goalkeeper, Olorunleke Ojo has said the best team won the just concluded League Management Company (LMC) Super Six tournament in Abuja.
The nation’s Under-20 side won the 10-day preseason showpiece with an impressive 13 points after overcoming tough challenges from the Nigerian champions, Kano Pillars, Federation Cup winners, Enyimba, Warri Wolves and Dolphins while it pulled a score draw against the Olympic team on the final day clash.
Ojo said there was nothing surprising over their five-star performance as his side prepared adequately for the annual tournament.
“Of course, it was quite glaring that the best side won the Super Six tournament, it wasn’t anything surprising to us given the level of commitment and hard work we put in preparing for the tournament.
“Our intention was to make it 100% record but for the 3-3 draw against the Under-23 side (Dream Team V1).
“We’re going to keep focus and further work hard to maintain the momentum in our subsequent challenge especially the forthcoming African Youth Championship (AYC) in Senegal,” said the Giwa FC shot stopper to supersport.com.
Ojo said his side are going to Senegal for the podium dance as well as the ticket for the World Cup in New Zealand.
“Our target is to beat all comers at the AYC in Senegal and qualify for the World Cup as African champions.
“That’s not to say the championship will be cheap nor the opponents but with hard work and determination no team can stop us from achieving our aim,” said Ojo.
Flying Eagles will campaign for glory in Group A together with hosts, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Congo while the group winners and runners-up will qualify for the quadrennial football fiesta in the Oceania state, New Zealand.
