Tanzania’s Taifa Stars came from behind to hold neighbours Malawi 1-1 in an international friendly match played in Dar es Salaam on Sunday afternoon.
Winger Micium Mhone, returning to the Flames squad after a long absence, reportedly deflected in a shot to put the visitors ahead in the first half. Tanzania cancelled out matters in the second half.
The Flames coach Young Chimodzi handed Red Lions Chikoti Chirwa a debut when stepping in late in the game for Polokwane City striker Esau Kanyenda.
The veteran striker Kanyenda had started upfront alongside in-form Peter Wadabwa who has also returned to the fold.
Right winger John Banda described the result as important to the Flames who are building up for the 2015 Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup to be played in South Africa this May.
“This game is important because it has something to do with Fifa ranking. It is also giving us better preparations for Cosafa Cup,” Banda told supersport.com.
Malawi squad: McDonald Harawa, John Lanjesi, Harry Nyirenda, Limbikani Mzava, Francis Mlimbika, John Banda (Frank Banda), Micium Mhone (Lucky Malata), Joseph Kamwendo, Chimango Kayira, Peter Wadabwa, Esau Kanyenda (Chikoti Chirwa).
