Zambia ended their winless drought in 2015 when they beat Rwanda 2-0 in a friendly international, played at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Sunday.
The victory was Zambia’s first in 2015 after picking two draws and as many wins since the start of the year.
Zambia dominated Rwanda in the opening half but were again poor in front of goal.
Bornwell Mwape blew hot and cold but had the best opportunities for Zambia in the first half.
The Amazulu striker failed to put Zambia ahead from close range in the 20th minute and saw his shot saved by Oliver Kwizera.
Rwanda’s best chance in the first half came two minutes later when Zambia goalkeeper Daniel Munyao failed to deal with Patrick Sibomana’s cross and luckily for Zambia Justin Mico failed to put a quality finish to the ball.
Kwizera was on hand in the 36th minute to parry Rainford Kalaba’s effort but Mwape again failed to punish the Rwanda goalkeeper on the rebound after he split the Zambia captain's shot.
Meanwhile, both goals came in the final 30 minutes of the match.
The first goal arrived in the 60th minute when Kalaba tapped in the ball from close range at the far post.
Zambia completed their day in the 80th minute when the recalled veteran winger, Alan Mukuka, hammered in the ball just 30 minutes after replacing Jackson Mwanza.
