Alex Isabirye, the URA coach, is bitter with the Uganda Premier League’s (UPL) management’s refusal to postpone their match against a resurgent SC Victoria University (SCVU) due Tuesday.
The two face off at Namboole just four days before URA host Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Orlando Pirates in the return leg of the Caf Champions League on Saturday. URA trail 2-1 from the first leg of this first round encounter.
“There is little support given to Ugandan clubs on the continent,” moaned Isabirye, adding, “Imagine if more players suffer injuries today. We requested them to postpone the game but they refused.”
Four first team players in Peter Lwasa, Oscar Agaba, Frank Kalanda and Deo Othieno are already out of Tuesday’s league clash with injuries.
Hosts SCVU, who have won their last four on the trot in all competitions, will hope to continue the run. But they will also be without striker Fahad Tokko, who got sent off in the 2-1 win over Bul.
The good news for Isabirye’s URA, however, is the return of Robert Ssentongo; the joint league top scorer with 10 goals having missed the 1-2 loss to KCC in the Uganda Cup last week.
URA won the reverse fixture against SCVU 1-0 in Lugazi and are currently fourth in the log with 30 points. SCVU are ninth with 24.
