Guma will be fit for Chan – Micho

Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic is confident his dependable and versatile player Denis Guma will shake off his knee injury in time for the Africa Nations Championship (Chan).
The Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) defender-cum midfielder has carried the injury, which has ruled him out of Cecafa that gets underway in Nairobi on Wednesday, for some months now.
But Micho is counting on his experience and quality, the same quality that saw Guma alongside Hassan Wasswa command the Cranes to Chan, when the tournament to be held in South Africa in January next year kicks off.
“Ugandan doctors proposed an operation on his knee but some a doctor, who is on Novak Djokovic’s (World Number 2 tennis star) medical team, looked at his scan and advised that he can do without it,” said Micho.
“He (Guma) is expected to start light training in December and then he will be competing for his position for Chan in January.”
The Cranes are group alongside Morocco, Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe, and will want to perform better than 2011 in Sudan when they lost all group matches.
Meanwhile, Uganda begin their 2013 Cecafa title defence against rivals Rwanda on Friday in Machakos. Other Group C teams Sudan and Eritrea will also face off.
