Adepoju mourns Agbonavbare

Former Super Eagles attacking midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju has described as unfortunate the death of teammate, Wilfred Agbonavbare.
The former Rayo Vallecano goalkeeper and 1994 Afcon hero died on Tuesday in a hospital in Alcala after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Adepoju said Nigeria has actually lost a great ambassador and hero in the person of the former Super Eagles magnet, Agbonavbare.
“Oh my God, I know he is battling with cancer but it never crossed my mind that death is very much around the corner.
“It’s really sad, shocking and unfortunate, may his ever gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” said the former 3SC star to supersport.com.
Adepoju said the goal tender died a great hero and should be remembered and treated the same by the government.
“Agbonavbare was gentle, easy going and nice person. He was a dedicated goalkeeper as well as team player.
“He defended the colour of Nigeria perfectly well and a worthy ambassador.
“Agbonavbare was a hero, represented Nigeria well and done greatly, too winning the Africa Cup of Nations title in 1994 and other laurels.
“He should be remembered and respected as great Nigerian and accorded due rights meant for great heroes,” said Adepoju.
Agbonavbare equally lost his wife to cancer few years ago.
