Resilient Zesco delights Lwandamina

Zesco United coach George Lwandamina says his player’s showed character in their 2015 Charity Shield semifinal post-match penalty win, over Nkana ahead of this Saturday’s Champions League home game against Mbabane Swallows.
Nkana pushed Zesco to the limits last Sunday, at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe despite losing 5-4 on post-match penalties to the latter after a 1-1 full-time result.
Zesco took a 1-0 halftime lead through from striker Winston Kalengo, who barged his way past two Nkana defenders to score in the 15th minute.
Nkana equalised in the 64th minute courtesy of midfielder Joseph Sitali who whipped in a fine free kick.
Zesco then found themselves on the ropes until the final whistle after defender Bernard Mapili was sent-off in the 71st minute.
“It was a good game, it has given us leverage for our next game and it was also good training for us,” Lwandamina said.
“That is why it was very important for us to play this the game. It has exposed us in certain areas before we play our next game.”
Zesco host Swallows on February 28 in Ndola tied at 1-1 from their first leg, preliminary round match played in Swaziland on February 14.
Winner will play either Kaloum FC of Guinea or Ivorian club Sewe Sport in the first round during the weekend of March 13.
