As AmaZulu slipped closer to relegation last night with a 1-0 home loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, coach Steve Barker was left to reflect on a lack of quality in the final third.
Usuthu produced a performance full of gusto, but despite adding significantly to the club’s forward line in the January transfer window, again drew blanks against title-chasing Sundowns.
“I must commend my players again for the great commitment and the never-say-die attitude they showed again this evening and I keep saying it, but tomorrow’s another day,” Barker said.
“We have to stand up, we’ve got another game on Sunday away from home against SuperSport United, tough, but we need to be up for the task.”
AmaZulu’s problems are plain to see, defensively they have been OK this season but a lack of goals finds them now 10 points away from safety and rapidly sinking to the National First Division.
“It seems like it’s a recurring movie right now … a lot of great effort, working hard for one another, keeping ourselves in matches to try and win it,” Barker added.
Barker is publicly not too despondent and says he feels his side will get back on the winning trail soon.
“If we can continue to play like this I’m sure we will get some victories under the belt,” he said.
