A first against third affair looks to make for the biggest fixture of matchday of the FCPPL on Wednesday.
Leaders AshantiGold will host chasers Heart of Lions at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi. The two sides have shown good form so far this season and on the back of wins last Sunday, promise of a beautiful contest. AshGold coach Bashiru Hayford in his pre-match preparations is not so enthused about the lack of time to scout the opponents due to the nature of the fixture schedule. Most games have been played in three-day intervals.
“With the way the tight nature of the fixtures, it makes it difficult to study your opponents before games. Nonetheless, we will play them [Heart of Lions] as we do against other teams. Remember, I have worked with them before, so we will know how to handle things,” the Miners gaffer said.
AshGold lead the pack with 21 points with Lions two places behind on 14 points.
Another promising encounter is the Berekum Chelsea fixture with Asante Kotoko at the Golden City Park. The defending champions with their array of stars, have unimpressively managed 9 points from a possible 24 so far. Assistant coach Michael Osei has been in acting since the last game and could feature as many as 5 former Chelsea players on Wednesday. Obed Owusu, Abdul Latif Amadu, Owusu Jackson, Jordan Opoku and Emmanuel Clottey have previously been with the Berekum club and the latter believes it is an added advantage for his new club.
“I know what they [Berekum Chelsea] do there [Golden city Park] and how they play. When I was coming to Kotoko, I went there and visited them in training. I know we will overcome them,” said Clottey.
Hearts of Oak have a tough nut to crack in a ‘one-goal project’ opposition as Aduana Stars at the Accra Stadium. The 2009 champions’ shrewd strategy of scoring at least one and avoid conceding looks to be working so far this season as they have managed 16 points from 8 games. Aduana have however dropped their points in the away games – two defeats and a draw. Hearts on the other hand, have been in miserable form and are languishing in 15th position with 8 points.
Inter Allies welcome B.A United at the Tema astro-turf while Sekondi Hasaacas travel to the Upper West to face All Stars at the Wa Park.
WAFA, an academy team filled with 16 and 17-year-olds, are battling to prove a point this season and currently lie on the half of table. They will be fancying another impressive show against visiting New Edubiase United at the Academy grounds in Sogakope.
Bechem United after impressively coming from a goal down to beat Medeama SC 2-1 last Sunday will host Great Olympics as the Mauves and Yellow play hosts to Liberty Professionals at the T&A Park in Tarkwa.
