The University of Pretoria will welcome Moroka Swallows to Tuks Stadium on Wednesday evening in a repeat of the 2009 Nedbank Cup final. Kick-off is at 7:30pm.
The Nedbank Cup Round of 32 match-up will offer the sides a brief respite from league action with both teams hoping to ignite a similar run to that of six years ago.
The hosts will head into the encounter as favourites having assembled a six game unbeaten run ahead of the midweek clash. The Dube Birds meanwhile sit on a three game losing streak.
AmaTuks head coach Selaotse "Sly" Mosala explained that the Tshwane side are eager to do better in the cup than they managed in the past two seasons, but insists it will be no easy task despite admitting that it is a favourable draw for his troops.
"We have been in the PSL for now three years, this is our third season. If you look back at our involvement in this competition we played against Maritzburg United, SuperSport United and now Swallows We are at home once again, we are hoping that this time we will change our fortunes," said Mosala.
"We want to do well in this competition once again like we managed to do six years ago while still playing in the National First Division (NFD).
"We believe drawing Swallows is a good draw for us, but obviously the problem we face is that they will be eager to change their fortunes and start winning. They will come and try to use this cup game as preparation for the league, it will be very difficult."
Swallows captain Lefa Tsutsulupa is wary of what is a deadly AmaTuks strike force, but is confident his side can trump AmaTuks and get the victory which could spark a positive run in the league.
"Its obviously a cup match, the guys are prepared, there must be a winner on Wednesday night. Confidence at the moment is not that high, but signs suggest that we are on the rise," said Tsutsulupa.
"We need something and this gives us the opportunity to get back on track. We have been conceding stupid goals and we have failed to score more than the opposition. We definitely want to be there [in the last 16] and we will enter the match positively like we always do.
"Tuks are one of the teams that finish their chances very well and we have to guard against that. We have the tactics to deal with that and we have to cut the supply, if we do that we won't have a problem."
The Birds won that Nedbank Cup final 1-0, and also beat Tuks by the same score in the last 16 of the 2013 Telkom Knockout to boast a 100 percent record from the teams’ two previous cup matches.
Overall, however, the record between Swallows and Tuks is dead even: in seven league and cup matches since that Nedbank Cup final, each side has claimed three wins, there has been one draw, and each has scored nine goals against the other.
