Algeria, Mali play for pride

With virtually only pride to play for Algeria will host Mali in their final 2014 Fifa World Cup group stage qualifying match.
Kick-off is at 19h00 (CAT) at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Algeria have already secured their place in the next phase on the road to Brazil 2014. The North Africans won their group with a match to spare as they prepare for their playoff games for the month of October and November.
Assistant coach Noureddine Korichi said this match is scheduled at the "right moment" to prepare for the play-off stages of the competition.
"This is a game which comes in appropriate moment because it will allow us to assess the work we have done so far, especially since we will be dealing with a team that excel in duels and the air game, two parameters we have improved a lot since the beginning of our current camp," said Vahid Halilhodzic’s assistant.
Mali need a point to ensure they finish in second in the pool, but it will be scant consolation for a country that has finished third in the last two Africa Cup of Nations competitions and might have expected to make the final round of qualifying at least.
This was especially so after a 2-1 victory over the Algerians earlier in qualifying campaign that gave them pole position in the pool, but having been held to home draws by Rwanda and Benin, their chances faded.
The two countries have a remarkably even record in past meetings, with seven wins apiece and a single draw in their 15 games. Mali have won twice in Algeria too, both times in friendly matches in 2004 and 2005.
