Kanu tips Eagles for WCup glory


Former Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo believes the current Nigeria team can qualify for the 2014 Fifa world cup in Brazil.
Speaking exclusively to supersport.com, Kanu however cautioned players and coaching staff of the Super Eagles not to display signs of complacency ahead of the playoffs.
“The current team is strong and the players are growing in experience. I believe this team will qualify for the world cup if they show the country they will meet in the playoffs respect,” he told supersport.com.
Kanu represented Nigeria at three world Cups between 1998 and 2010 wants the ever-demanding Nigerian fans to be patient with the team which he says “is on the right track”.
“The team is on the right track under (Stephen) Keshi who is a very good coach.
“I want to appeal to the fans to be patient with the team even when things are not going well.
“We are African champions so teams will work extra hard to beat Nigeria but so far we are doing well and if we qualify fr the World Cup, I am sure we will do Africa proud,” he said.
Kanu is the most decorated Nigerian footballer of all time.
He won league titles in Nigeria, the Netherlands and England. He also won the UEFA Champions’ League, UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup, UEFA Cup (now Europa League), the Community Shield and FA Cup while playing for clubs like Heartland, Inter, Ajax, Arsenal and Portsmouth.
Kanu who is also a two-time winner of the African footballer of the year award was capped 87 times for Nigeria.
