Four of the seven National First Division teams involved in the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup have advanced into the next round following this weekend’s results from across the country.
Current NFD leaders Golden Arrows provided something of an upset when they defeated Durban rivals AmaZulu 2-1 away from home on Friday evening, though given Usuthu’s rotten form this season it cannot be classed as a surprise result.
Thanda Royal Zulu were unable to follow in Arrows’ footsteps when they took on Mamelodi Sundowns, losing 2-0 away on Saturday afternoon, while Jomo Cosmos claimed a 2-1 away win over lower league side Phiva Young Stars.
There were two all-NFD clashes in this round of the cup. The first was an absolute goal-fest which saw Black Leopards crush FC Cape Town 6-2 on Saturday, while the second saw Maluti FET College defy the form that sees them placed bottom of the second tier to defeat African Warriors 2-1 away on Sunday.
The last 32 round of the Nedbank Cup will wrap up this Wednesday evening with two all-PSL clashes. University of Pretoria host Moroka Swallows, and SuperSport United entertain Polokwane City.
The draw for the last 16 pairings will be made in Johannesburg on Thursday.
