That there was a considerable amount at stake for both clubs ahead of this year’s derby had already been well documented, which is why both teams were expected to err on the side of caution on Saturday.
However, Baxter believes it was quite to the contrary.
Both Pirates and Chiefs showed considerable intent and created several decent opportunities throughout the fixture, which many pundits will argue was a case of the proverbial two halves.
"This was probably the best Derby the crowd will see for a long time," said Baxter after the match.
"Two teams went for the win, but, in the end, I am happy with the one point," added Baxter.
"Pirates edged us in the first half.
“However, we changed some things at halftime and we really had a go at them during the first 20 minutes of the second half.
“We should have scored, but we didn’t and that’s when we lost some momentum," said the Chiefs mentor.
The one fact which can’t be ignored at this juncture is that Chiefs have dropped points yet again in 2015, which means that second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns have now closed the gap in the league standings to just eleven points.
Significantly, Sundowns still have a game hand and should they win that, Bafana Ba Style will cut that gap to just eight points with eight matches remaining in the campaign.
