De Sa happy with added experience

Ajax Cape Town’s fine form in 2015 has earmarked them as a team to watch in the PSL in the closing months of the season and coach Roger de Sa believes the revival in their fortunes comes down to one major factor – a stronger bench.
The Urban Warriors go into tonight’s league clash with Mpumalanga Black Aces on the back of three wins in their last four games, their only blemish an unlucky 1-0 loss at runaway league leaders Kaizer Chiefs a week ago.
The young squad has been buoyed by their 2-1 victory at SuperSport United at the weekend which De Sa says perfectly illustrates his new-found riches in depth.
“If you look at the game against SuperSport and the kind of players we were able to bring off the bench, it has been a massive boost for us,” De Sa said.
“Earlier this season we were scratching around a bit for quality off the bench, but against SuperSport when we needed to hold the game a bit, we called on Granwald Scott, Dominic Isaacs and Franklin Cale.
“That made a massive difference to us, they are all experienced players.”
Indeed, the trio have almost 700 PSL starts between them and are among the most experienced players in the domestic league.
And with midfielder Lance Davids and defender Nazeer Allie back in full training as well, suddenly De Sa has a wealth of options that were previously denied him this season by injury and circumstance.
Added to that, the way Erwin Isaacs has settled into life with the Urban Warriors has pleased De Sa no end.
The forward, on loan from BidVest Wits but likely to make his move permanent at the end of the season, has scored two in three games and added some guile to the Ajax attack.
“I knew Isaacs from my time at Santos so it is no surprise to me that he has done so well,” De Sa said. “I always felt he would score for us and do well, with the way we play. He is hungry and really wants to be here, which is important.
“In all honesty he has taken a lifestyle knock to be here, but he really wanted to come back to Cape Town and his performances have shown the hunger and maturity he now has.”
Ajax do have two doubts for tonight’s clash – Moroccan-born forward Noah Sadaoui continues to be sidelined with a toe injury, while Malawi international Robin Ngalande has sat out training this week.
