Mamelodi Sundowns striker Cuthbert Malajila says tonight’s Absa Premiership opponents Polokwane City have nothing to lose and will be gunning for an upset.
City have had a good season overall, but have been out of form in 2015, though the Zimbabwean striker says they will relish the chance of a major scalp against the defending champions.
“Polokwane City have proven to be one of the toughest sides in the league and have not only caused major upsets but have also scored more goals than any other team so far,” Malajila told his club’s website.
“Now that’s very impressive reading for a side who were fighting for their survival in top flight a season ago.
“But as much as they have scored more goals, they have also let in as much, which means they have weaknesses we can possibly exploit.
“When coming up against a side of this nature you have to bury your chances early in the match because if they get the opportunity they will unsettle you.
Malajila is one of three players on nine goals so far this season, along with Bloemfontein Celtic’s Lerato Lamola and Moeketsi Sekola from Free State Stars, but he says he is not thinking thinking of the top-scorer prize.
“I’d like to believe that I’m a team player and that’s the most important thing right now,” he said. “I have actually stopped keeping tabs on the top scorers in the league as I’m more interested in our title defence and keeping our hopes alive.”
