Burkina Faso are seeking to recreate the magic of their giant-killing run to the last African Nations Cup final by training in Nelspruit before they head to Equatorial Guinea later this week for the 2015 edition.
The Burkinabe spent almost the entire 2013 Nations Cup in Mpumalanga, playing all three of their group matches at Mbombela Stadium, where they eliminated defending champions Zambia, and then beating both Togo and Ghana in the quarterfinal and semifinal before moving onto Soccer City in Johannesburg for the final, where Nigeria beat them 1-0.
Two years later, they have returned to South Africa to train in a city which they consider a lucky charm and on Saturday warmed-up for the upcoming tournament with a 5-1 win over Swaziland at the Mbombela Stadium.
Burkina Faso came from a goal down to win easily in front of a small crowd. Brothers Alain and Bertrand Traore were among the scorers with the tall striker Aristide Bance netting the fifth from a penalty. There was also a goal from Mohamed Koffi and an own goal from Swazi sweeper.
They will next meet Botswana at the same venue tomorrow before concluding their preparations and heading
