Burkina Faso head off to Eq. Guinea

Burkina Faso concluded their African Nations Cup preparations in Nelspruit with a 2-0 win over Botswana before heading to the tournament yesterday.
Jonathan Zongo and Aristide Bance both scored in the space of three minutes to put the Burkinabe two goals ahead on the half-hour mark at the Mbombela Stadium but the Zebras then held out stoutly to avoid the hiding that Swaziland received from “Les Etalons’ at the weekend.
In Burkina Faso’s first warm-up game they thrashed the Swazis 5-1 at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
Botswana fielded a side mainly made up of under-23 players with a few senior additions to strengthen it.
The west Africans had been preparing in Nelspruit for the last two weeks, using the city as a ‘lucky charm’ after they spent most of the last tournament camped there and played five of the six matches at Mbombela as they went on an unexpected run all the way to the 2013 final at Soccer City.
Superstitious Burkina Faso officials insisted they go back to Nelspruit hoping that preparing there would allow them to replicate much of the same as they achieved in South Africa two years ago.
The Burkinabe squad left at 8am yesterday for Malabo by charter plane. Burkina Faso play Gabon on Saturday in Bata on the opening day of the tournament.
