Ajax pleased with January acquisitions

Ajax Cape Town left it late but have managed to add what they say is some significant firepower to their forward options before the January transfer window slammed shut on Friday, boosting their chances of a top eight finish.
Coach Roger de Sa has been desperate for a new striker all season as Ajax have returned a paltry 17 goals in their 18 PSL matches to date, only Chippa United, Bloemfontein Celtic, Platinum Stars (all 16 goals), and bottom side AmaZulu (13) having been less efficient in front of goal.
In has come Erwin Isaacs on loan from BidVest Wits, the 28-year-old returning to Cape Town after a move from Santos in 2012 that has turned out to have been a poor career choice.
In his two and a half seasons in Johannesburg, Issacs scored just two goals in 12 starts, but Ajax are hoping to use him in a more favourable forward position to reignite his once promising career.
Returning to the club is attacking midfielder Toriq Losper, another Capetonian who failed to find his feet in Gauteng.
Losper moved to Wits from Ajax as part of a deal that saw Robin Ngalande move in the opposite direction.
The 22-year-old started just eight games in all competitions in the first half of the season, but failed to find the back of the net. His last appearance was at the start of November.
“We desperately needed to add some firepower upfront and we are confident that Erwin, together with Toriq Losper, will add exactly what we missed in the first half of the season,” said Ajax CEO Ari Efstathiou.
“Erwin has great support in Cape Town and I am sure the Ajax supporters will be right behind him when he steps onto the field in the red and white.
“Tokkie’s (Loster) valuable contribution and loyal commitment to Ajax Cape Town was sorely missed and we are all very happy to have him back home. He is very enthusiastic and excited to join his teammates and we are certain he will contribute immensely in helping us finish the season in the top eight.”
Meanwhile, national under-20 centre-back Ayabulela Magqwaka has joined SuperSport United on a six-month loan as he finally gets the move away from Ajax he had been seeking for some time.
Defender James Mofokeng has also left for a six-month loan spell with National First Division Cape Town All Stars. He did not make a single appearance this campaign.
