May Mahlangu is set to complete a move to Turkish side Torku Konyaspor in the coming days, according to the club’s spokesman.
The Bafana Bafana outcast is a free agent after leaving Swedish side Goteborg at the end of last year and so is not bound by the transfer window.
He was expected to hold discussions with the club yesterday, with the formalities all but agreed verbally.
It would end speculation over his next move, which has included rumours he would join clubs in England, Spain, France and Germany.
There has been Turkish interest in his services for some time though, and although it is not one of the elite leagues of Europe, it is a highly competitive environment to play in.
Konyaspor have battled this season and sit just one place above the relegation zone.
They are without a league win in five matches, a run dating back to the start of December, but are on the brink of a place in the Turkish Cup semifinals.
Konyaspor play at the New Konya Stadium, a state of the art 42 000 seater venue that was only opened in 2014, making it one of the most modern facilities in Europe.
Konyaspor hail from the central Turkish city of Konya, which has a population of a little mover 1-million people.
Turkey was once a keen importer of South African talent, with the likes of Bafana Bafana players Steve Komphela, John Moshoeu, Fani Madida, Helman Mkhalele, Pollen Ndlanya, Donald Khuse, Maimane Phiri, Godfrey Sapula and Linda Buthelezi all plying their trade in the country with some success.
Komphela and Moshoeu in particular are still held in high regard there, but the flow of South Africans has all but dried up.
Bradley Grobler was the last South Africa to play there when Platinum Stars sold him to Turkish second division side Goztepe for the 2011/12 season, where he saw plenty of game-time but did not enjoy the kind of goal-scoring success he might have hoped for.
Before that, Elrio van Heerden had an unsuccessful short spell with Sivasspor.
