Malajila focused on team success

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Cuthbert Malajila says he is focused only on his team’s success and not the Absa premiership top goalscorers prize this season.
The Zimbabwean is one goal behind leading scorers Lerato Lamola of Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State Stars’ Moeketsi Sekola, but has one game more to play than the duo.
However, he says he is only thinking of helping the team to league success, however slim those hopes may be, and winning the Nedbank Cup.
“Last season I was very close to winning the top goal scorer award but I was very unfortunate to be sidelined by injury. But the best part is that the team went on to win the league,” Malajila told his club’s website.
“This season once again I’m very close and still have the opportunity to go all the way, but I would much rather win with the team than achieve individual glory.
“The remaining matches for us are like cup finals and I can’t afford to be sidetracked by the carrot of winning an individual award. There’s still a lot to play for.
“I always put the team first and always do because I want to see the team win silverware. I know that my teammates share the same sentiment because we win and lose as a team.”
Sundowns are in action tonight in the league when they host Platinum Stars.
