Papic eases pressure on players

Polokwane City might have had a poor run of results recently but are still inside the top eight and will certainly post their best-ever Premier Soccer League finish at the end of the season with last season’s relegation woes but a distant memory.
But coach Kosta Papic is not making securing a berth in next August’s MTN8 a priority for his players as he feels they do not need the pressure.
Instead, he says his side can relax after almost certainly making sure of their target for the season; avoiding relegation.
“We told the players the aim was to avoid relegation. That was the only target he had for the season.
“After we beat Bloemfontein Celtic (3-0 on March 14) we are completely relaxed. It is very difficult to now give new pressure to the players to achieve something else.
“Of course we will try our best to finish in a position to play in the top eight next season.
“But if we do or not, we can only see end at the end of the season. Mentally it is tough to set a new target again. I’m not sure about that but we are going to fight to win every match and get the three points.”
Polokwane City play at Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday, then host Mpumalanga Black Aces, travel to Platinum Stars and finish at home to SuperSport United in their final games of the league season.
At the weekend, they gave up a late penalty to lose 3-2 at home to Free State Stars ands have now just a single win to show from their last eight games
“We tried, we fought, we played very risky football, we tried everything but we didn’t score. I don’t think we deserved to lose the match. We played like we were the team fighting against relegation and not them. The goals we are conceding are something very strange.”
