Polokwane in Chiefs way of title

Kaizer Chiefs will look to claim the Absa Premiership title on Wednesday night when they host Polokwane City in a league match at FNB Stadium.
Kick-off is at 7:30pm.
A win for the Amakhosi on Wednesday will see them uncatchable at the top of the table and crowned league champions.
Chiefs top the standings with 60 points from 26 games, 13 points ahead of second placed Mamelodi Sundowns who have played a game less and are also in action against Platinum Stars on Wednesday.
Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, Amakhosi captain Tefu Mashamaite believes his team are not feeling the pressure and they are not concerned with Sundown’s result, but will rather focus on themselves.
“Pressure is the most abused word in South African soccer,” said Mashamaite.
“We have a chance to win the league. What pressure is that? That’s not pressure, that’s something beautiful.
“We will focus on ourselves on Wednesday and what we need to do to win the game and the league title, we will not worry about Sundowns’ result or what they are doing.
“It is on us to get a result and I believe we will. Polokwane will not be an easy task as they are gunning for a top eight position, but we want to look back on this moment and be proud.”
Polokwane are currently placed ninth on the league table with 33 points from 26 games, but a win on Wednesday could see them up to seventh on the log, and under the guise of coach Kosta Papic that is exactly what they are capable of according to Rendani Ndou.
“We’d like to finish in the top eight and the coach has been pushing us,” said Ndou.
“The players are very grateful to have him around because if you are a cow, he can change you into a star. The players enjoy playing for him and he is pushing us to do better.
“He doesn’t put players under pressure, though, and he gives you freedom. If you make 10 mistakes and do one good thing, he will compliment you about that good thing and not shout at you about your mistakes.”
Ahead of the Chiefs game, the coach himself is aware that it will be no easy task to get a positive result, but he is focussed on getting his team into the top eight.
“We are going to try and beat Chiefs,” said Papic. “We need only two wins [to get into the top eight] and that will be good enough.”
In head-to-head stats, Chiefs and Polokwane have met in three league matches since 2013/14.
The Amakhosi have an unbeaten record in the sequence, with two wins and one draw from the trio of matches.
Chiefs’ only previous home league match against Polokwane was a 4-1 win in the first half of last season.
When the teams met earlier this season, they played to a goalless stalemate in Polokwane.
