Chambeshi, Mwila salute Simukonda

Coaches have paid tribute to late Nchanga Rangers coach Fighton Simukonda.
Simukonda, 58, died on February 15 at Konkola Mine Hospital in Chililbombwe after battling Diabetes for the last two months.
His former Nkana teammate and coach Beston Chambeshi said Simukonda’s passing was a blow for Zambian football.
“It’s a big loss to soccer fraternity and to the country,” Chambeshi said.
“I played with him at club level and in the national team. What a wonderful man he was to work with and he was smart in doing his job. May his soul rest in peace.”
Former Zambia coach Fred Mwila, under whom Simukonda worked as assistant in the mid 90s, said the late Nchanga coach will be missed by many.
Mwila was technical advisor when Simukonda won the 1998 Cosafa Cup in Zimbabwe.
“This is very bad news, very sad indeed, to lose such a vibrant coach, I liked Simukonda so much,” Mwila said.
“I worked very well with him, he was always jovial and ready to give his best. I remember when we went to Zimbabwe together as part of the technical bench.”
Simukonda also served as Zambia Under-23 coach and led the team to the Senegal 2015 Caf Under-23 Cup tournament where the team made a group stage exit last December before he became ill days after arriving back home.
