AmaZulu have confirmed the acquisition of former Bafana Bafana winger Delron Buckley as the club’s new assistant coach.
Buckley will work under head coach Steve Barker and brings a wealth of experience having played most of his career in Europe.
It is a first move into coaching for the 38-year-old, who last played for Maritzburg United in the Premier Soccer League in the 2013/14 season before persistent back problems ended his career.
It was an unfortunate end for the winger with 73 caps and 10 goals for South Africa, as he had previously said he wanted to play one more season.
Buckley left for Germany as a teenager under the influence of ex-Bafana coach Gordon Igesund.
He played for eight seasons at Bochum, and later featured for Arminia Bielefeld, Borussia Dortmund, Mainz 05 and Karlsruher.
He also had a spell on loan at FC Basle in Switzerland and at Anorthosis Famagusta in Cyprus, where he was reunited with Ernst Middendorp.
IN all he had 16 seasons in Europe before moving to Maritzburg in the PSL in 2012 for two more campaigns.
AmaZulu have decided to beef up their technical team after a mixed National First Division season so far that sees them eighth position, six points off the promotion playoff places.
