Libyan league expands to 21 clubs

This season's Libyan Football League has been enlarged to accommodate five more clubs and will see 21 clubs competing for the title.
According to reports in Libya, five clubs that ranked in top positions in the standings of the second tier have been included in the top-flight for this terms.
The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) gave the names of the five clubs that will increase the number of the top division to 21 as Al-Mahala, Abi Al-Ashar, Al-Sharara, Shabab Al-Jabal and Al-Taawun.
The decision by the country's football federation means that it has jettisoned the 16-team league format for 21.
Eleven of the clubs are from the western part of the country while the other nine are based in the east.
The plan is to see the Libyan top-flight divided into two groups, according to the LFF official, Zain Al-Abideen Burkan.
The Libyan league has suffered several postponements including in August 2014 owing to unrest in the North African nation.
It is now expected that the league will kick off in Libya in March barring any hitch.
